Lillian Carrillo “Lillith” Curry Grey aka Lillian Spicer (January 22, 1888 - April 22, 1985) was born in California, as Lillian Carrillo Curry. She was the daughter of Luisa Simorfina Carrillo, whose pioneer family once owned the Cucamonga and Chino ranchos.
Lillian father, William Edward Curry, was a downtown Los Angeles restaurateur who packed and sold lunches to Hollywood production crews in the early days of silent films. She was in the first class at Hollywood High School when it opened in 1910. Lillian married Robert Earl MacMurray. Her actress daughter Lita Grey (born Lillita Louise MacMurray) married comedian and film pioneer Charlie Chaplin when she was 16 years old.
Working as an actress under the name Lilliam McMurray, she appeared in The Gold Rush (1925) and The Idle Class (1921).
After Charles Chaplin divorced her daughter Lita Grey in 1928, Lillian legally changed her name to Lillian Grey.
She died of the complications of age in a Los Angeles area convalescent home on April 22, 1985 in Los Angeles, California. She is interred with her grandson, Charles Chaplin Jr., at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in the Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Trust.
